Rev. Bro. Patrick Tierney
De La Salle Brothers
My vocationstory is simply told.I was born into alarge Catholic family and my parents were persons of deep faith.I was the youngest of twelve and was surelyinfluenced by the fact that my eldest brother had become a La SalleBrother.Besides I attended The La SalleBrothers Primary School in my hometown and there came across several Brotherswho attracted me.
The recruiterBrother came to our Primary School when I was in Primary Six and I was one ofseveral who raised our hands to indicate we were willing to join up.Two of us eventually did join, at the age of twelve, and we had to go to the Brothers' Formation houses and schools fromthen on.
And so, throughsome hard times of homesickness, hunger and strange customs and good times ofcomradeship, games and family support, I have continued as a La Salle Brotherto this day. God be thanked and praised.
The greatestsatisfaction in my vocation is derived from the numerous opportunities to serveyoung people, especially in the school context.Dealing with young people helps me to be young at heart. Our Founder told us that in our ministry weneed to "touch hearts", to touch the hearts of the students we teachor care for.It seems to me be one ofthe greatest ministries in the world.
